Mudjacking in Eagle Mountain, Utah

Mud Jacking has been around since the early days of concrete. Homeowners throughout the state of Utah have utilized it for many years due to its reliability, longevity, and it costs a lot less than tearing out and pouring new concrete.

What Is Mudjacking and How Does It Work?

Mudjacking is an old technique which has existed almost as long as concrete. You may also hear it referred to by several different names including; Slab Jacking and Pressure Grouting. All three are essentially doing the same thing, although they do call for a slightly different approach.

Here’s how it generally works. First, drill some holes in the bottom of a settled slab (the number of holes depends upon the size of the area needing repair). Then pour a special mixture into those holes. This mixture is a very thick type of fluid known as a “slurry”. It contains a combination of water, local soil, sand and cement.

When this slurry flows through the holes and settles in the space below the slab, it begins to take shape. As it does, the pressure generated by its mass causes the slab above it to begin lifting upwards. And as it continues to rise, the holes used to inject the slurry close behind. Once all of the necessary adjustments have been made to bring the slab back to its proper elevation, the entire process is complete.

Mudjacking Versus Polyurethane Foam Lifting

Homeowners commonly inquire how mud jacking compares to the new polyurethane foam method. While both will fill the void that exists below a sunken slab and raise the concrete back up, there are some very notable differences when it comes to the materials used, the cost involved with using this process, the curing time associated with each process, and when you can expect to see results from each process. Below is a side by side view of both processes.
